The year 2009 is dedicated to "taking our
writing to the next level."
What this means is our focus in 2009 will be
on meeting the diverse interests and needs of all members, from beginners to
the next best seller.
Our primary goal this year is to offer a
variety of programs, including a few hands-on workshops that will appeal to
all writers on their journey to publication--from just starting out to
multi-published--and everyone in between.
If you're a current member, we want you to
get more involved! If you have a special interest or request for a speaker
or topic, please let us know.
If you're not a member but are thinking about
joining an energetic and accepting writers' organization, Saturday Writers
is the place for you! All writers are welcome; we especially encourage
beginners to join.
We believe Saturday Writers is one of the
finest writers' organizations in the Midwest, but don't take our word for
it.
Here's what former MWG President Patsy Bell Hobson
has to say about us: "Saturday Writers is one of our strongest and
most proactive chapters. . . Saturday Writers consistently win contests,
awards, and get published."
So, if you want to "take your writing
to the next level," please read below to find out how you can join Saturday
Writers.

WHAT IS SATURDAY WRITERS AND WHY SHOULD YOU JOIN?
* Our membership is VERY AFFORDABLE - just $20 a year
for new members and $15 for current members who renew by March 1.
* Speakers at our ten monthly meetings educate, motivate,
and inspire us to achieve our writing goals.
* Our members showcase
their talent during our works-in-progress meetings.
* Our annual poetry and short story
contest winners receive cash, certificates, and recognition. We also publish
(on our web site and in our newsletter) information about other contest and
submission opportunities.
* Our quarterly newsletter, which
is sent to all members, is full of helpful information for and about writers.
* Our website is updated several times each month, and membership
entitles members to link from our website
* Chapter-members receive discounts at our annual fall
workshop and the
MWG conference each spring
* Network, network, network. Let's
face it; writing is more than finding your Muse and putting pen to paper (or
butt to chair and fingers to keyboard). Writing is a creative process, but
it's also a business. Like any successful businesses, it's also about
connections and networking. At Saturday Writers, we connect with
other writers and with experts in the publishing industry.
*
You do not have to be published to become a member.
Writers on
all steps of the journey -- whether just starting out, struggling to finish
their works, or multi-published -- are welcome and encouraged to join us!
* Belonging to Saturday Writers is
a blessing --- and a bargain.

Saturday Writers
is the web site for the St. Charles/Lincoln/Warren and St. Louis County chapter of the
Missouri Writer's Guild. Saturday Writers is a
not-for-profit organization and one of fourteen chapters of the Missouri Writers
Guild. Founded in January 2002, our members include writers from the Missouri
counties of St. Charles, Lincoln, Warren, and St. Louis, as well as members
from throughout Missouri and other states. Our members write in all
genres: fiction, non-fiction, essays, memoirs, poetry. Chapter meetings are the
last
Saturday of each month from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the St. Peters Community and Arts Center, 1035 St. Peters Howell Road (just
off Mid Rivers Mall Drive); St. Peters, MO 63376. Phone
636-397-6903. Directions to the center are found on the FAQ page.
The goal of Saturday
Writers is to be a forum to network
with local writers by offering support and by sharing ideas and markets for publication.
Each month we have a guest speaker, a
panel of speakers, a round-table discussion about some aspect of writing, or readings of
works in progress. We also have an annual workshop in the fall.
The
primary benefits of membership in Saturday Writers are attending our
meetings, receiving our quarterly newsletter, posting your bio on our
website and receiving e-mail updates
from our president about writing events and opportunities.
Saturday Writers is not a critique group
and does not provide formal critique or editing services as a benefit of
membership, but our during our meetings, writers can share tips and make
contacts for critique groups.
We strive to assist writers in achieving their publication goals so,
if they desire, they may become
members of the Missouri Writers' Guild, . Our membership also believes in "giving something back" by
sponsoring contests and by participating in community activities to support literacy and
to encourage aspiring writers. Each year we sponsor fiction and poetry contests
for adults, as well as writing competitions for children and young adults.
All writers, including non-members, may enter these competitions.
Winners in our writing contests have the opportunity to have their works
published in our annual Cuivre River Anthology.
Annual chapter
membership is $20, payable in January*. Membership is open to all writers over the age
of 15 (parental permission required for those aged 15-17), whether they've been published or not. While non-members may attend
"open" meetings for $5 per event, selected events are limited to members
of Saturday Writers only. Events intended for members only will be publicized as such and
will require pre-registration.
