Von Pittman recently retired from a life as a wandering university bureaucrat at four large state universities. After thirty years of writing academic and professional articles, and the “how-to” book Surviving Graduate School Part-Time, he has turned to fiction and memoir. His stories have been published in The First Line, Perspectives Magazine, Crime and Suspense, and Well Versed, and in the anthologies Deep Water, Storm Country, and Diamonds in the Rough. He has won first prize in two categories of Missouri Writers Guild competitions, SHORT STORY (2008) and MAGAZINE (2012).
In an earlier life, he was both an engineering officer on an aircraft carrier and a career graduate student. In his writing, he often compares the two lifestyles, usually finding that manners, management techniques, personnel policies, and lifestyle were greatly inferior in the latter environment.
As a lifelong Atlanta Braves and University of Georgia Bulldogs fan, he finds himself isolated in central Missouri.
