Writers of all genre and skill: Join us from 9:00-3:30 on Saturday, October 27, 2012 for hands-on learning from two of our areas most qualified teachers of the craft. Pitch your book to a publishing agent! We'll be hosting our annual Silent Auction during our workshop as well!

9:30 Kristina Blank Makansi, co-founder, editor and publisher of Blank Slate Press, will briefly discuss the dos and don’ts of pitching to agents and editors. Contact us here to schedule your 10 minute private pitch session with Kristy in advance.
Former newspaper reporter and Professor, Steve Wiegenstein will lead us in a two-hour exercise in mainstream fiction, with genre fiction as an option. Polish up and learn new skills by generating ideas, writing, critiquing and sharing.
Lunch will be delivered by Manninos Deli of Cottleville. Order your 8 inch hoagie boxed lunch in advance and skip the hassle of running out for lunch or bringing your own lunch for the workshop! ***Lunch must be preordered by October 22****
Do you have a personal story to tell? Are you serious about writing? Learn the ABCs of writing authentic, brave, creative nonfiction. Linda O'Connell will discuss every aspect from the basics to the ethics of sharing your life story. Linda will provide a list of publishing markets and small attendance prizes. She is also offering a door prize of one, free, ten page personal essay critique.

Where will the workshop take place?
Our workshop will take place in the same building as our regular meetings. St. Peters City Hall - Use the WEST ENTRANCE - Cultural Arts Center, 1 St. Peters Centre Drive St. Peters, Missouri 63376
If I register early, do I have to pay early?
Yes, fees at the door are $35.00 regardless of when you secured your space. You can pay your fees here or you may snail-mail your payment to our PO Box 2093, St. Peters, Missouri 63376.
Will lunch and breaks be provided?
We'll take plenty of breaks throughout our day, and we'll have a 1/2 hour lunch break. You can choose to bring your own lunch, or order lunch with your workshop registration (lunches must be ordered by Oct 22). Leaving for lunch is not recomended as only a 1/2 hour is provided for lunch, so leave at your own risk.
Will drinks and refreshments be provided?
Coffee, tea and water will be provided throughout the day and there is a vending machine in the building as well. Limited snacks donated by our members will be available.
What types of items will be available for auction?
This is our second annual auction. Last year, were able to raise a good amount of money for our nonprofit group auctioning gift cards, restaurant cards, books, household items, jewelry, tickets to local events, model airplanes and ships, and baskets filled with delightful and useful items. This year we'll be auctioning baseball tickets, restaurant gifts cards, books, variety baskets and the donations keep coming... Let us know if you have a donation for our Silent Auction.
What should I bring?
A pen, paper and a 2-pocket folder will be provided, but you may wish to bring your own items. Outlets will be available for laptop plug-ins if needed. Checks and cash will be accepted as payment for our Silent Auction items, no ATM's are available in the building.
How can I sign up to pitch to Blank Slate Press?
Contact Saturday Writers at firstname.lastname@example.org to arrange for your private 10 minute pitch to Blank Slate Press. Pitch time is limited, so be sure to sign up early to pitch your book or manuscript idea!
Should I bring my manuscript to give to Kristy during my private pitch?
No, Don’t bring manuscripts, but if you have a card or a bookmark or other little marketing doodad you’ve developed, BSP will love to see it.
Who is Steve Wiegenstein?
I was born and raised in the eastern Missouri Ozarks -- my folks grew up on adjoining farms, and our family roots go deep in Madison, Iron, and Reynolds counties. I went to college at the University of Missouri. After a few years as a newspaper reporter, I returned to school and then got into the higher education biz, with teaching stints at Drury College (now "university") and Culver-Stockton College, among other places. I'm currently the associate dean for academic affairs at Columbia College in Columbia, Missouri. I'm an avid canoer, rafter, and kayaker on Missouri's float streams.....a longtime member, friend, and supporter of the Quincy, Illinois, Unitarian Church.....a fan of the St. Louis Cardinals.....a hiker (ok, make that walker).....incoming President of the Missouri Writers' Guild. I find pennies on the sidewalk more frequently than anyone I know.
