Bio: Laura Benedict is the Edgar- and ITW Thriller Award- nominated author of eight novels of mystery and suspense, including The Stranger Inside (Publisher’s Weekly starred review), and the Bliss House gothic novels and stories. Her latest book is a compilation of her short fiction, When I Make Love to the Bug Man: Collected Stories. Her stories have appeared in Ellery Queen Mystery Magazine, Strand Magazine, and in numerous anthologies. A native of Cincinnati, Ohio, she lives in Southern Illinois with her family.

Description: In this workshop, you'll discover how to become your own first and fiercest editor. Learn the essential skills to identify areas for improvement in your early drafts and quiet those pesky inner critics that can derail your best instincts. We'll also explore techniques to become a skilled critical advocate for the work of your fellow writers. Remember, your writing partners aren't the competition - they're collaborators in the collective act of elevating everyone's work to new heights. Get ready to transform your drafts and champion the growth of your writing community. Writers should bring one to two pages of their own unedited work for their personal use in the workshop.

You can now attend our in person meetings virtually via ZOOM! This is a members only perk. An annual membership comes with virtual and/or live admission to and recordings of all regular meetings, access to members-only discussion/critique groups and events, exclusive no-fee contests, listing of your bio and book titles on our website, and more. As has always been the case, anyone is welcome to attend the in-person meetings at the library with a guest fee or paid membership. ​

                                                         NOTE WELL-NEW MEETING PROTOCOL
You may attend in-person or via Zoom. Zoom details will be emailed during the week leading up to the meeting. *Zoom is for members only.

For those attending in person, we will take the following precautions for the health and safety of all:

• Masks are optional for all attendees.
• Hand sanitizer will be available.
• Coffee, water and light refreshments to be shared. You are allowed to bring in food for yourself if you wish.
• Attendance records will be kept in case contact tracing becomes necessary.

It is the intention of the Board of Saturday Writers to continue to offer in-person meetings as long as the library remains open and allows us to do so. If anything changes, we will pass on updates as quickly as we can. Please do not attend in person if you are ill or have had a known exposure to Covid. We will continue to incorporate Zoom so that all can participate.
