Meetings and Events for Saturday, May 25, 2024
Bio: When asked to describe herself in one sentence, Nikki Hanna said, “I’m a metropolitan gal who never quite reached the level of refinement and sophistication that label implies.” The contradictions reflected in this description are the basis for much of her humorous prose. She describes her writing as irreverent and quirky with strong messages.
As an award-winning author, writing coach, and writing contest judge, Hanna is dedicated to inspiring others. She champions both novice and seasoned writers through presentations and workshops on writing craft, memoir, nonfiction, publishing options, revision and editing tactics, winning contest strategy, writing with voice/style/humor, and finding joy and purpose in writing. Her programs are designed to move writers quickly along the continuum from novice to authorship status and to find their niche in the writing landscape.

Description: Participants in this session learn step-by-step processes for developing personal voice, style, and humor. A writer’s most valuable commodity is his voice. Fresh approaches to expressing voice are designed to ensure that a writer stands out. How to discover a personal style, one that sets the writer apart, is also revealed. Techniques for introducing humor, no matter how serious the work, are illustrated. Triteness is a fatal flaw. The practical tools presented show writers how to deliver uncommon creations that reflect unique, personal expressions—those worthy of their readers’ time and the attention of agents and publishers.
