Meetings and Events for Saturday, April 26, 2025
Description: In this interactive workshop, Margo L. Dill will cover several topics related to writing for the middle-grade audience, the writing craft, and getting published. You can expect:
Bio: Margo L. Dill wears many hats in the writing world – from published author to small press publisher to developmental editor and everything in between. A founding member of Saturday Writers, she is very excited to return and share her love of middle-grade fiction with fellow writers. She has worked in the writing industry for over 25 years, starting mainly as a children's writer while she taught elementary school. However, as most writers with a long career, she has been published in fiction and nonfiction for children, teens, and adults. Currently, she works as a marketing associate at Standing Partnership, a B2B marketing agency; as the publisher and founder of Editor 911 Books; and as a managing editor at WOW! Women on Writing.
When she is not busy writing, editing, marketing, coaching, and publishing, she enjoys a good glass of red wine with friends, but most of all, loves hanging out with her 14-year-old daughter and rescue dog, Sudsi! Find out more at www.editor-911.com.
Margo will have copies of her two middle-grade historical fiction books for sale and her picture book after the talk.
- Top tips from Margo's experience of writing, editing, and publishing middle-grade fiction (Many can be applied to almost any genre!)
- A discussion on what makes a book middle-grade, young adult, or adult with youth characters
- Current writing trends for middle-grade and, in general, what you can learn from looking at trends no matter what you write
- Examples of sharp, crisp writing by current middle-grade authors and fun writing exercises for you to try that complement the examples
- Brainstorm session on what is actually important about writing – whether for kids, teens, or adults
- Ideas for getting published in middle-grade and tips to sell books to kids in a saturated market
- Plenty of time for questions
