Shirley Anderson
Shirley (Rocek) Anderson was reared in Omaha, Nebraska and was a missionary nun for eighteen years. Her book, Poverty, Virginity and Love Memoirs of Asia and Other Places, takes the reader to convents, to several countries and on various adventures, including those in war-torn Saigon, South Vietnam, where she trained a Vietnamese counterpart.
She was awarded a Bachelor of Science from a Seventh Day Adventist University in Loma Linda, California; a Master’s Degree and Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration from Saint Louis University. During her twenty-two years at Saint Louis University she earned the rank of Professor, was Chair of the Department of Medical Record Administration and subsequently of Health Information Management. For two summers, she taught English as a second language to female Japanese students visiting Saint Louis University.
In the 90’s Shirley was the Series Editor for textbooks in Health Information Management. She had over thirty articles published in professional journals; edited and
contributed chapters to a Methodist church history; and had travel articles published in local newspapers.
